Sal Page: Cook’s Tip

Well-meaning advice regarding food and self-control are pouring from the pages of magazines this time of year. So, here’s a gem from last spring.

Do you have any carrots lingering in your fridge? Have they lost their original crispness? Have they gone somewhat limp? No problem! Submerge them in ice cold water for half an hour and they’ll be as good as new. Even crisp enough to chop into batons for hummus dipping or to grate into a salad.

Or just sling them in the bin & have a bag of cheese and onion crisps instead. Or two bags. And some cashew nuts & a bit of chocolate. And a cheese spread and Marmite sandwich. And a bowl of cornflakes with ice cold milk.
